Larry Mower has lived in Northern California since 1947. After graduating High school from Pierce Joint Union High in Arbuckle, CA he spent 3 years serving in the US Army (1959-1962). After the Army, Larry began working for the California Pacific Utilities as a Telephone installer repairman. This position led him to a 29 year career with the Citizens Utilities Company (Now called Frontier Utility). Throughout the 29 years he has worked in Alturas, CA, Elk Grove, CA, Redding, CA and Dallas, TX. After retiring from Citizens, he worked for 4 more years as an Area Manager for Wolters Communication; covering Northern California, Oregon and Nevada. He has served on many boards and committees over the years including: the Alturas Planning Commission, The Anderson Planning Commission, and the Anderson City Council. Currently he serves on the Shasta County Building Appeals Board and was appointed to the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District Board in 2008. He has also been a member of Kiwanis International since 1974 and has held every office including Lt. Governor.
Bob Michiels was raised on a dairy farm near Green Bay, WI. He worked on the family farm until the 1940, when he joined the Navy. Bob says, "The main reason for joining the Navy was because they promised to pay me $21 a month, but as true as Uncle Sam was in those days, he remains the same today...he only paid me $17 a month." Bob remained in the Navy until the war was over, temporarily returning to Wisconsin. During his travels with the Navy, he remembered how warm California was, so quickly returned. He then began a lifelong career in retail, selling everything from wines and spirits, a bowling pin business, and a plastic pipe business. He also ventured into commercial real estate and cattle in New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, and California. In the meantime Bob and his wife enjoyed traveling all over the world. He began serving on the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control Board in 2003, and was reappointed in 2007.
Henry "Butch" Hurlhey moved to Shasta Lake City in 1999. He has worked in the Auto Body trade for 45 years, performing custom work on cars; 25 of those years he has owned his own shop. He is a member of the Shasta Lake Historical Society, Shasta Lake Fire Prevention Council, Shasta Lake Coordinating Council and the Golden Valley Street Rod Car Club. Also, Mr Hurlhey is a volunteer Blacksmith at the Old Shasta State park. Henry says; "My wife and I love this area and love our city. We could not be happier living in this beautiful area." He was appointed to the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control Board in 2006.
John Dunlap was the managing partner in a Redding engineering, surveying and land planning company employing 43 people at the time the business was sold. He is as licensed Structural Engineer and Civil Engineer and graduated with a BS with honors from Sacramento State College. He was born and raised in Northern California.
He has served on many boards and commissions, including the Centerville Community Services Board, the Greater Redding Chamber of Commerce Board and was President of the Economic Development Corporation of Shasta County. He chaired the Government Study Commission established by the Shasta County Board of Supervisors to review the structure of County government.
He was appointed to the Shasta Mosquito and Vector Control District Board in March, 2009.
Gary Hergert was born in Seattle, WA. He then moved to California in 1960. In 1962, he became the Yard Yacht Sales Broker for Chanel Yacht in Bethel Island, CA. In 2007 he retired as an independent distributor of McColl's Dairy and Crystal Dairy in Redding, CA. Gary was reappointed to the Board in 2009.
